Welcome to the Harwich & District Community First Responder website. Community First Responders are volunteers from their local community who are trained to respond to emergency calls in their local area through the 999 system in conjunction with East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST). Community First Responders are not a substitute for the ambulance service. But as we live within the community we are able to attend the scene of an emergency call in a very short time; often within the first few minutes and, in the majority of cases, we are first on scene. Community First Responders are able to administer vital, life saving first aid treatment before the arrival of an ambulance crew. Their early intervention further increases the patient's chance of survival or may just provide the simple reassurance that the ambulance crew are on their way.
